Located about 15 minutes from the town of Puerto Jimenez, this stunning property is in the quiet little alcove of Guanabana in a small, private little expat neighborhood on the Osa Peninsula.

These homes are nestled in secondary forest decades old, shaded in the afternoon by tall trees, the grounds landscaped and manicured. The beach is a mix, sandy at high tide, rocky with tide pools at low tide, with stunning views that sweep across the Golfo Dulce to take in the coastal mountains of the mainland across the water.

MAIN HOME

Has two bedrooms, two baths, and a private upstairs loft area. Built in 2006 by Brad Shenko, the home is open-air architecture and tailored to the tropics. It includes deep foundations, concrete construction, standing seam metal roof insulated against the heat, and teak cathedral ceilings.

This home is powered by solar which was installed by Intitech with new batteries installed this year. The solar panels are located in the pasture on the property and serve the refrigerator, lights, ceiling fans, Sky TV, radio and stereo, and washing machine. A backup generator is included. There is hot water in the kitchen and bathrooms along with hand-painted tiles and sink in the bathroom, kitchen, and bath.

Private water system from a deep well of very good quality water pumped to two large tanks in the tower, located behind the bodega. Secured bodega is used for storage and laundry.

GUEST HOME

Located beyond the main home. It was built from natural woods and has 2 bedrooms and sleeps five. This income-producing rental home is currently on various vacation rental websites with a five-star rating.

CARETAKER HOME

Located at the rear of the property. Currently houses a full-time Quidador.

PROPERTY

The extensive shaded trails lead around the property and to a secluded beach in front. Only eight km from bustling Puerto Jimenez, Guanabana is an oasis of secluded tranquility, a short jump from groceries and town supplies.

Extensive plantings of Heliconias, ginger, teak, Ron Ron, bamboo, guayaba, bananas, papaya, mango, avocado, noni, avocado, wild almond, and many species of citrus.

Abundant wildlife always present are monkey troops, sloths, coatis, tayras, with otters in the streams, iguanas, Scarlet macaws ever-present, also toucans, hawks, green and red parrots, tanagers, flycatchers, and dozens of various migratory bird species are frequent visitors. And from time-to-time Ocelots can be seen.

Neighborhood

The Osa Peninsula

This peninsula is located in southwestern Costa Rica, in the Puntarenas Province, with the Pacific Ocean to the west and the Golfo Dulce to the east. The peninsula was formed geologically by a faulting system that extends north into California.

The peninsula is home to at least half of all species living in Costa Rica. The main town on the peninsula is Puerto Jimenez, which has its own airport and provides access to Corcovado National Park as well as the coastal villages of Cabo Matapalo and Carate.

Osa Conservation Area is an administrative area which is managed by SINAC for the purposes of conservation in Costa Rica, on the southern Pacific coast region. It contains two National Parks, and numerous Wildlife refuges, and other types of nature reserve.

Puerto Jiménez is the largest town on the Osa Peninsula, Puntarenas Province, Costa Rica. The town is located on the Golfo Dulce near the Corcovado National Park. Also near the town is the Golfo Dulce Forest Reserve, where sightings of scarlet macaws, toucans, and trogóns are common. During the 1960s, Puerto Jiménez was a haven for gold mining and logging. Today it is a popular tourist destination due to its proximity to the national park and has an active nightlife with several bars and restaurants. The town also has a supermarket, several clothing and shoe stores, a bakery, an art gallery, and several other shops. There are several hotels and hostels in Puerto Jiménez, including Lunas Hostel, Cabinas Jiménez, and Crocodile Bay Resort. The small airport (Puerto Jiménez Airport) is, surprisingly, is the third-busiest airport in Costa Rica.

SURF the Osa Peninsula

Backwash Bay- features a large and slow reef break in the center of the Bay. The best surfing is during mid-to low-tide times when swells tend to come from the west or southwest. These sectioned waves are thrilling for longboarding sessions. There is usually a fun right that breaks in the middle of Backwash Bay, but it is not an everyday occurrence. On days that it is happening, it is worth checking out at mid-to-low-tides. Sometimes the waves can be quite steep and usually are not as consistent as, for example, at Matapalo.

Cabo Matapalo- The beach at the peninsula’s outermost point is called “Hog Hole” locally. It receives consistent open-ocean waves that can be good for surfers of all levels.  There are strong right-hand waves that break best around mid-tide. These can be quite challenging on big swells. Probably, one of the big attractions is the seclusion of the surfing experience, even on weekdays. Pavones

Although Pavones is known for having the Second Longest Left in Costa Rica; the area offers many different activities for surfers, birdwatchers, hikers and nature lovers. Tourists flock to Pavones in droves each year to enjoy the beauty of the area and yet remains quiet and quaint. Pavones lies within the Southern Zone of Costa Rica just to the South of Golfito. The nearby VIllages are Punta Banco, Pilon, and Playa Zancudo. Each has its own unique personality that draws in surfers from all over the world and offer additional amazing adventures.
