Pavones, Costa Rica is known for its long, heavy waves, which some say are the second longest left in the world. The waves can break for up to 700 meters with a double overhead southwest swell, providing two-minute rides. The bottom of the wave is better for beginners, while the top of the point is better for advanced surfers. The surf works on all tides, but high tide is best because the wave breaks in deeper water, allowing surfers to make more sections.
