Surfing in Cloud 9 is a remarkable and stunning experience. The best months to hit the waves occur between September and March. Cloud 9, also known as Cloud Nine and Boyums, offers a thick and hollow barreling left/right-hander ride. It is named after a locally-produced candy bar.
It was discovered by American surf traveler and convicted drug smuggler Mike Boyum in 1989. Four years later, photographer John S. Callahan visited the Philippines, shot the stunning surfing arena, and published photos of the trip in Surfer magazine.
Cloud 9 is taunted as the best surfing spot in the Philippines. If you’re an advanced surfer looking for some high-energy waves that break over shallow coral reefs with powerful right-handers and fast barrels, then this should be one of your stops on the itinerary! These very characters of the Pacific waves put Cloud 9 and Siargao on every surfer’s bucket list.
